Man Utd feelings on Donny van de Beek crystal clear as transfer details emerge
Manchester United are so desperate to get rid of Donny van de Beek that they will let him go for next to nothing.
The Dutch midfielder is on the verge of leaving the club on a permanent deal. Van de Beek will join Spanish side Girona. His move will bring to an end a disastrous four-year stint at Old Trafford following a £40m move from Dutch giants Ajax. And the terms of the deal underline just how disappointing Van de Beek has been as a Man United player.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils will receive just €450,000 (£380,000). That fee is guaranteed as an up front payment.
Van de Beek’s exit could potentially be worth up to €4.5m (£3.8m) but only if a number of add-ons are met. Should that not happen, the Red Devils could lose potentially all of the considerable fee that they paid for him.
The move is the latest embarrassment for Van de Beek at Old Trafford. Since his arrival, the now 27-year-old has made just 62 appearances and scored only twice.
He was sent out on loan to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in January but made just eight appearances. He also received an apology from then boss Dino Toppmoller after being left out of the club’s European squad.
Speaking at the time, he said: “He’s only played a total of four games in the last two years, so it won’t happen overnight. But I have 100 per cent confidence in his quality, he’ll definitely help us in the second half of the season. I told Donny that I was sorry but also what I expected from him now.”

Erik ten Hag has previously attempted to explain his compatriot’s troubles at Old Trafford, and believes it is down to constant injury issues. “He has had many injuries, first of all,” Ten Hag said.
“From the first moment I came in here at Manchester United, he wasn't the player he was at Ajax because he was injured . So many times he was not available and then he struggled for a long time to recover from that injury. That is probably the main reason why he was not playing.
“We decided for a loan in the summer but it didn't come and then his opportunities are few because also we make appointments and we make agreements with players and contract players in that position. The competition was high.”
